Frequently asked questions

Millenage traces your lineage from facts you already know: birthplaces, sometimes a family name. It needs no sample and no genetic data.

The method

Is it reliable?

It is an estimate, and its accuracy is measured: on 25 lineages whose origin we knew and had hidden from the calculation throughout its development, it finds the right main region 8 times out of 10. When a lineage comes from one place, 94 times out of 100 (on 67 families); when it is heavily mixed, 64 (on 14). The full detail is on the “Proof” page.

Do you need my DNA?

No. We take no sample and keep no genetic data. We start from your family's birthplaces, your skin tone and sometimes a family name: what you already know.

How is it different from a DNA test?

A DNA test measures your biology, and it mostly reflects your ancestors from the last few generations. Millenage reconstructs your family's journey over thousands of years, back to the ancient peoples it came from. The two complement each other, and you can hand us your test results so we can cross-check them against your lineage.

Is it scientific?

The method draws on published ancient DNA and on population history, and it is tested on cases whose answer is known in advance. The result remains an estimate, for cultural and recreational purposes. It is not a diagnosis, and it does not replace archival genealogy.

Your data

Is my personal data protected?

Yes. No genetic data is collected, and no advertising tracker follows you. If you create an account, your lineage is kept there so you can find it again, and you can export or delete it whenever you want.

What do you do with the places I enter?

They are used to compute your lineage, and nothing else. We do not sell them, and we draw no declaration of origin about you from them. The more you give, the tighter the estimate; beyond your own birthplace, those of both your parents, your skin tone and theirs, nothing is required.

Your results

Why are some origins broad, like “Western Europe”?

Because that is what the data supports. For recent centuries, the honest answer is often a large region rather than a precise people, and the calculation will not invent a precision it does not have. Named, dated peoples appear as you go further back, where the traces tighten.

And the future, how does that work?

It is the same family, running the other way. From your lineage and a few facts about your life (where you have lived, whether you have already lived elsewhere, what matters to you), we estimate where your descendants will live in 25, 100 and 300 years, each destination with its low and high range. The calculation was tuned on 16 real diasporas whose movement is documented, then checked on 10 others it had never seen.

Can I find my results again on another device?

Yes. What you bought is tied to your account: sign in on the other device and you will find it.

Buying

Why is there a paid version?

The free discovery shows your major origins. The paid versions open the depth: named peoples era by era, the full journey through the ages and your descendants. This work has a cost, and it is what lets us stay ad-free.

Can I get a refund?

The content is digital: the order becomes final once your access is activated, and you then waive the 14-day withdrawal period, as the law provides. Before activation, you can ask to keep that period. If a prolonged outage stops you from reaching your content, you are refunded in full.
