How it works

From your birthplace to the countries of 2325

You give your birthplace and answer a few questions about yourself. We then move your family forward generation after generation, following the paths millions of people actually took before you.

You get the countries where your descendants could live in 25, 100 and 300 years, with the share of each. And a picture of the tree, to keep.

The questions are about facts: where you have lived since you turned eighteen, whether you own your home, whether your work could be done elsewhere. None of them mentions a country: they tell you apart from someone born in the same town.

Possible futures

No one knows what a family will become over three centuries. The tree shows possible paths, and says how sure each one is.

The model is tested against twenty-six diasporas whose history is documented: we hide where they ended up, and watch whether it finds them again. Ten of them were never used to tune it.

The measurements in detail

A simulation for cultural and recreational purposes, with no genetic or diagnostic value.

One place, then nine answers.

Questions about what you have lived: where you have lived, whether you have already left, what matters to you. The tree then grows out to 2325.
